China SAMR Ramp Up Crackdown on Facilitating Unlicensed Food Production
On December 1, 2025, according to a report on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), in recent years, SAMR has continued to advance law enforcement across the entire food safety chain. From March to October of this year, SAMR organized market supervision departments in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Henan, Hunan, and other regions to investigate and handle a series of cases involving illegal addition of toxic and harmful substances in food, unauthorized health claims, false labeling of imported products, and other violations. The authorities have conducted joint crackdowns on illegal production and operation enterprises, revoked their food production licenses, dismantled illegal production chains and dens, and transferred suspected criminal to public security organs.
